2007-2012
In 2007 the “Windswept aesthetic” style born. During this time I created a new and unique paint style called later "windswept aesthetic" leading to individual art exhibitions in Ponce and Arecibo, Puerto Rico and New York's Agora's Gallery web page.

Angel Javier Martinez’s magical, surrealist imagery emerges from windswept canvases and blurred backdrops as if reaching viewers in their dreams. The Puerto Rican painter’s subjects vary from mythical creatures to classical nudes and nature studies, but throughout he deploys a striking and unique style. By using a broad variety of strokes and brushes, Martinez gives his oil compositions a spectacular sense of movement and dynamism. This distinctive style simultaneously evokes coolness and warmth, as though his subjects were glimpsed through a waterfall or heat wave.

Martinez’s liquid aesthetic– with colors swirling around one another and forms diffusing into their surroundings– invites viewers to fill in the details, imagine the stories and create the context for his enigmatic scenes. Amazingly, then, his extremely unique and striking paintings maintain a universal accessibility and appeal. Informed by his interests in storytelling– Martinez is also a poet and novelist– each painting stands as a fragment from a larger narrative. Happily, Martinez lets us imagine the stories behind his visions.
